Forsyth Events

The Matthew Quigley Buffalo Rifle Match takes place just north of Forsyth each Father's Day weekend. This event, the largest of its kind in the world, draws shooters from all 50 states and several other countries. It's a great event for spectators, too, so don't feel like you have to participate to join in the fun. Just watching is a good time in itself. Take note, though:
If you're coming to town for this particular weekend, you''ll need to make reservations early. (See our Lodgings page)

In July, the area's biggest event, the Rosebud-Treasure County Fair, takes center stage. Big-name entertainment, a free stage, 4H and open class exhibits, and a first-class carnival combine to make a great time for all. Of course there's plenty of "fair food" available, and we also have one of the few fairs that has free gate admission, and to top it off, there's no charge for parking!

Also in July, Montana Shakespeare in the Parks makes its annual Forsyth visit. This free event brings genuine live Elizabethan theater to towns all over Montana. Local sponsors and donations make this excellent cultural event possible. Local organizers also put on the Relay For Life at this time of the year. This event, held in Forsyth and Colstrip in alternating years, is part of a nationwide effort to raise money for cancer research.

As summer begins to wind down, it's time for the annual Yellowstone River Duck Festival, known locally as "Duck Days." This event combines a parade, sidewalk sales, a car show, and various other events. It's topped off with a rubber duck race on the Yellowstone River -- adopt your duck at many Forsyth businesses during the months of July and August, and then root for your duck to float across the finish line first. If your duck is among the fastest, you can win a grand prize of up to $1000. Various smaller prizes are awarded to runner-up ducks too. After the race, it's time to head to downtown Forsyth for a street dance featuring live music, great food, beer gardens and plenty of old-fashioned fun.

October brings the annual Black Tie/Blue Jeans gourmet dinner, a fund-raiser for our local health care foundation. This event combines "comfort clothes" with gourmet food and is high on the list of many locals' must-do events. Enjoy an evening of fine dining and great fellowship at the Forsyth Country Club.

In November, Forsyth kicks off the Christmas shopping season in grand style with the annual Parade of Lights and Christmas Walk. Stores are open late, local merchants and clubs sponsor lighted floats in various themes, and it's accompanied by fireworks provided by the Forsyth Volunteer Fire Department. There's also the annual Lighting of the Luminaria, in which loved ones are remembered on luminaria placed around the courthouse. There is a memorial service, carols are sung, and inspirational talks are given, In early December, the Forsyth Community Choir presents its annual Christmas concert, featuring sacred and secular Christmas favorites.

As part of the holiday season's festivities, local organizations sponsor matinees for the kids at our local movie theatre, and events such as the Children's Christmas Store (sponsored by the Forsyth Women's Club), a Community Christmas Fair, and a craft show all take place.

No matter what kind of entertainment or activity you're looking for, you'll probably find it in Forsyth!
